Santiago Picatoste

Palma de Mallorca, Spain, 1971
Santiago Picatoste’s bright, eye-catching works delve into the psychology of form and colour and the sensory and aesthetic experiences we have through them. Made from the superimposition of elements to create a new image, each piece is inspired by a piece of music or melody, while marrying an urban graffiti aesthetic with figurative elements from nature.

About The Artist:

Santiago Picatoste’s creative process arises from post-pictorial abstraction in connection with figuration, while it is also embedded in urban art and graffiti culture. Emerging from his passion for music, each artwork is inspired by a specific song or melody.

His colourful compositions merge together two imaginaries: on the one hand, the urban environment and lifestyle; on the other, elements from tropical milieux and countryside nature.

Whether they are painting on canvas or on plexiglass, his works result from the superimposition of elements, with coating or addition of layers of colours, textures, or industrial materials, such as industrial chloroform, etc.

Popular amongst private collectors in Spain and abroad, Santiago Picatoste has public sculptures in various cities of Spain and he has participated in international fairs such as Art Verona, Art Bologna, SP Arte (São Paulo, Brazil), Art Karlsruhe Art Fair (Germany).
