Jordi Alcaraz

Calella, Barcelona, 1963
One of the most respected names in the Catalan art scene and making his way into the international art market, Jordi Alcaraz is known for his profoundly lyrical work that draws from the tradition of informalism and arte povera to challenge the way we perceive the medium of painting.

In his mixed media and multi-layered abstract compositions, we find materials like water, glass, mirrors, or books. Alcaraz experiments in a highly innovative way with this medium through breaking, bending or melting surfaces and objects.

About The Artist:

Jordi Alcaraz has experimented with different artistic media and techniques to challenge the divide between painting and sculpture. Shaping his own unique artistic language, he is one of the most sought after contemporary artists of the local contemporary art scene in Spain.

By using a transparent plexiglass plate layered over a chosen base such as tactile paper or an open blank book, the artist draws an invisible line between visual poetry and conceptual projection, and proposes to the viewer an unprecedented, surprising and metaphorical relationship with the world. He is a transgressive artist and creator of a game of confronted looks, of material tensions and perforations that allow us to glimpse hidden and magical spaces that transcend the optical exclusivity.

Jordi Alcaraz has had numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Spain and abroad, and has been present at many of the most important international fairs such as Arco, Art Basel, Art Frankfurt, Art Cologne, Art Chicago, Art Miami and Arte Lisboa.

His works have been featured in gallery and museum exhibitions worldwide, and can be found in collections such as the Biedermann Museum, Donaueschingen in Germany, the Fontanal Cisneros Collection in Miami.
