This month, The Art Büro founder Gabby spent time with artist Gabriel Pereyra in his Barcelona studio, to get a closer look at his unique pieces and learn more about the deeper meanings behind his work…

Originally from Argentina, Barcelona-based Gabriel Pereyra is one of our favourite local artists. Hugely influenced by literature and philosophy, in particular the writing of Nietzsche, Pereyra’s work looks closely at issues surrounding mental health and the deconstruction of the self.

This is particularly poignant at the moment, as most of us look ahead to a life after COVID, feeling hopeful after a challenging year. Will the pieces ever fit back together like they used to? His puzzle series raise the question in a deeply soulful and beautiful way. The perfect marriage of meaning, design and art.

Gabriel works across various techniques and materials - from carved wood to painting directly onto the pages of books that inspire his philosophical outlook on life. His hypnotic geometric paintings and wall sculptures show influences from the German Bauhaus and Russian constructionist movements, with elements of abstraction and figuration.
